Tricenarian | ViaVia Jogja: Three Decades of Taste, Travel and Tales

About — Tricenarian Art Exhibition by ViaVia

30 years ago, on December 18th, 1995, ViaVia opened its doors in Prawirotaman, Yogyakarta. From the beginning, ViaVia was never just a restaurant or a travel hub, it was a space for creativity, community, and curiosity. It quickly became an alternative art space, a place for artists to express, experiment, and meet, whether they were already established or just beginning their journey in the world of visual arts.

Over the years, this small space has become a starting point for many Yogyakarta-based artists. For some, ViaVia was the very first place they exhibited their work. A stepping stone that helped shape their path into becoming the respected and widely recognized artists they are today.

Until now, ViaVia Jogja continues to grow and stay alive through more than 300 exhibitions, workshops, performances, murals, installations, wall art projects, and art tours, all made possible through cross-disciplinary collaborations, especially within the art community.

More than just a room to display artworks, the exhibition space at ViaVia has become a site of dialogue and interaction, a place where artists and audiences meet, exchange ideas, and form connections.

Through these 3 decades, ViaVia has lived through challenges, shifting trends, and countless experiences each one shaping it into a more mature, grounded, and ever-evolving version of itself.
